Solid

I enjoy Keren, not in my top 3 Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurants in D.C., but it's a very competitive scene. I agree with another commenter that the space is too tiny, a bit awkward, and in need of updating at the very least.

Cool location between DuPont and Adams Morgan.

Amazing Eritrean food

Some of the best Eritrean/Ethiopian food I’ve ever had. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The veggie platter is so filling and completely delicious. I would highly recommend a visit if you’re in DC!

Pros: Easy to make vegan, Super friendly staff , Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner

Cons: Can be a wait

Awesome Eritrean food

I love this place- definitely my go-to when I want Ethiopean or Eritrean food. Great veggie platter. Also get the ful, which is a fava bean dip that you'll find on the breakfast menu, and ask them to hold the yogurt. Staff in my experience is helpful and can help with veganizing and identifying what's vegan.

It's quite popular, so if you're going on a weekend evening or some other popular time, you will likely have a wait. I try to go during weekend post-lunch, pre-dinner hours. Or I'll go right after work before the dinner rush really starts. And it's not a big space- there's really no where to stand/sit and wait inside. So if there's bad weather keep in mind that you might be waiting outside or alternatively you'll be waiting right on top of somebody eating their food.

And umm, yeah, as someone said, the space looks "old," i.e. dated. If you need current interior design in order to properly enjoy your food, 1) that's weird and 2) this may not be the place for you, which is good because more room for me!

Pros: Great food, Helpful staff

Cons: Can get pretty busy

good food, not great space

Service and food were super, but the space wasn't overly nice. It was clean, but old.

Pros: good food, not expensive, friendly, fast service

Cons: location, small, too many tvs

Eritrean cuisine in Adams Morgan

The food here is good and filling. If you have never had Eritrean cuisine, this place is a convenient location with friendly staff ready to assist in your dining experience.

The long narrow restaurant has a few tables up front by the windows, and the rest line the left side of the restaurant's wall of mirrors. It is a more intimate experience than some U Street or NoVA restaurants.

The prices are good, and for a decent price, you will be ridiculously full if you eat the injera to scoop up each delectable bite from the veggie combo. You can also order pasta, as a result of historic Italian occupation of Eritrea. This also lent itself to a cuisine more tomato-friendly-heavy than Ethiopian cuisine. You will notice the spices are present, but compared to Ethiopian food, they are lighter.

Expect a huge serving for your veggie combo with yellow split peas perfectly stewed, red lentils with a rich but lightly spiced tomato based sauce, stewed spinach, tender stewed potato quarter-chunks and braised cabbage (also in a light tomato sauce). The food is less greasy than most Ethiopian restaurants in the area, but it still has the same injera appeal if you like the sourdough crepe-like-pancake-bread.

They have breakfast, too, focused on a fava bean stew of ful. It can be veganized, just ask them to hold off on the dairy and eggs.

Pros: Veggie combo portion: Herculean, Price: food is a steal

Fantastic

Very authentic Ethiopian restaurant with great, flavorful food. The vegetable injera is vegan and is huge! Definitely big enough for two people and inexpensive. The staff is very friendly.

Note that it isn't a very big place and is packed on weekends.

Pros: Great food, Flavorful spices

Cons: No vegan desserts
