Incredible - Edit
Incredible place !
Read moreThe restaurant is awesome, the venue is very beautiful and also the staff is very friendly. It’s only bad that they are in a street a little bit hidden.
The food is great , to start I ordered the Nuggets and it was very tasty , the give you a really big nuggets.
Then I ordered the seitan steak with moustard and was also very good and I also tried a little bit of the “Vegan fish and chips” and was also very good!
For dessert I asked for the oreo mousse that was amazing also!
I totally recommend this restaurant and I wil come back for sure!
Pros: The food , The venue

Hit or Miss - Edit
It's honestly hit or miss here. The first time I went the food was really delicious! The second time I went, although not personally loving the meal, I thought it was really well cooked and created, with great flavour mixes.
Read moreThen they changed the menu, it now looks far better and is more readable, but some of the dishes have changed, been removed, etc. This time I did not enjoy the meal at all!
Top pick: Fish & Chips! Chicken Burger! (I think this has been removed?)
Interesting: Francesinha (if you already like it, or want to try something typically Portuguese), the spicy cheese (they're really potato) balls.
Don't rec: The nachos! (Unless you really, REALLY love spinach)
Not as described (but still good): The 'mousses' - these are more like a thin yoghurt/pudding texture, and not aerated at all. They are extremely sugary (the throat burning kind), but are quite enjoyable still! Just change your expectations to a pudding :)
Coffee: I ordered a 'latte', which had 0 foam and tasted very burnt (bad decaf). The handle of the mug was extremely warm - which typically means they microwaved your coffee :(
Lastly, our main course took around 45 minutes to arrive, and then our starter arrived a further 5 minutes AFTER that. The staff didn't come to warn us about the main taking so long until around 40 minutes - to say it would be a further 5 minutes. They asked us originally to change our order to their special of the day because the dish we ordered was 'too small' to share, which it 100% was not. I now realise it's because they probably knew how long it would take to cook, which makes me wonder why they wouldn't forewarn us about the cooking time, or let us know a little earlier, OR bring us our STARTER earlier! If we hadn't visited and liked this place before, we would have left after maximum 30 mins and no staff interaction with us when they were not busy with anything else. - This whole experience/hindsight put me off a little.
Honestly the staff were very polite and nice when talking with us, but they also weren't very organised/didn't much know what they were doing on this visit. To add; the place was mostly empty.
The prices are not bad with mains being around 10-15 eur, starters being around 5 eur, and desserts being 3.50. The food is a good size portion.
Pros: Fully Vegan, Lots of variety, typical Portuguese foods, Nice interior
Cons: 45-50 minute wait for food with no interaction, A little bit pricey, but good food amount, Lots of spinach in some dishes, mousses not mousse

Hi tilde,
Read moreWe're really sorry you had a bad experience at our place.
It is true that we removed the Queen ("Chicken) Burguer from the menu. We took this decision mainly because not many people ordered it and we didn't want to have too long a menu.
About the coffe, we can assure you that we never microwave it (it's hot because mugs are placed above the coffee machine that emanates heat). Nevertheless we're sorry that the mug was served too hot, as this is not supposed to happen.
We're especially sorry that you waited too long and that you were not appropriately warned about it. We try that that never happens and the kitchen staff was informed about your complain.
We can assure you that the recomendation of the waitress was done with the best of intentions. The dish of the day is cheaper than any of the menu dishes and she thought it was better served in that day than the one your were going to order. She didn't have anything to gain by doing this and was just being transparent/honest as those are core values of our restaurant.
Again, we're really sorry about your bad experience at our place. Your feedback is much appreciated, as we're constantly trying to improve. Hopefully you come back to Kong in the future, as we're confident that you'll have a much better experience.
All the best,
KongVeganFood

One of my favorite - Edit
Kong is one of my favorite vegan spots in Lisbon. They have the best fracesinha (tipical dish from Porto) and some other good dishes. At luch they have 2 extra daily options that are cheaper.

Nunca desilude. Comida espectacular, saborosa, e onde encontro o melhor hambúrguer de sempre!! O King Burger, claro. Sempre que lá vou, tenho de pedir um destes para take away.

Never disappoints. Spectacular food, tasty, and where I find the best burger ever!! The King Burger, of course. Whenever I go there, I have to order one of these to take away.
The "rice without octopus", a typical dish in Portugal, is very good indeed, and the lasagna with mash, a mega pleasant surprise.
It's well worth it, and it's a place to go, whenever I have an excuse. : D

Sadly not tasty - Edit
Unfortunately not so good: The consistency of the steak was funny and the cheese balls tasted of mashed potatoes. The fries were too soft. There is much tastier food in Lisboa.

nothing special - Edit
I tried fish & chips. It was okay, but nothing special, and there are many places in Lisbon where you can eat better, especially for this price (9,50€, other main dishes were between 9 and 15€ if I remember well). the location is good for the tourists, but if you have time I recommend to move from the tourist city center and try some other place

Try the Francesinha - Edit
I have to confess I went there expecting to try the vegan feijoada, but they only have on Thursdays and Saturdays, so I went for the francesinha which is a traditional Porto dish and was very happy I got this option. It was very tasty and a big portion. Staff are friendly and the service was good.

No monkey business - Edit
Imagine the following: you are on a business trip in Lisbon and it's time for lunch. Your colleagues decide to have lunch at a place that only serves meat and fish. What do you do? Of course! You fire up the Happy Cow app on your phone and you find the nearest vegan place. And that's exactly what I did.
Read moreLuckily, there are a lot of vegan restaurants in Lisbon and I had the choice of five of them within a 5 minute walking range from my colleague's eatery. There was one problem: it was 11.30 and most vegan places open at 12.00 or 12.30. While "Kong" officially opens at 12.00, the door was open at 11.50 and I was welcome. I explained that I had to finish my lunch before my carnivorous colleagues did. The waitress suggested vegan octopus rice. It's a traditional Portuguese dish and it's something the kitchen can prepare quickly. Great idea, let's have octopus rice!
While the chef did his (her?) work I decided to take the opportunity to take pictures of the restaurant. Also, I asked the waitress why the restaurant is called "Kong". She explained that it refers to powerful yet plant eating animals like gorilla's, elephants and giraffes (hence the decoration).
Before the pictures were done, the octopus rice was served. It s a fairly simple dish: risotto like rice with a limited selection of vegetables in a broth. Mushrooms replace the octopus. While simple, it was tasty because the chef used just the right amount of spices and the broth was just enough to flavour the meal but not dominate it. Also, the ingredients seem to be of fairly good quality, which also does a meal a lot of good.
And: yes, I made it back to my colleague's restaurant just before they finished their meat and fish lunch. They noticed I looked very happy and satisfied. King kong did a good job!
Pros: cheap, decent food, quick service

Goods and bads - Edit
I had the vegan nuggets wich were made of seitan that i found very spongy and not savory, only the crust and the sauce was good. Tried the fish and chips, the "fish" was good but the potatoes where also mushy inside and without flavour. The best was the chocolate mousse wich was the best vegan one i ever had.

Stones in food - Edit
The food itself was nice but I has several stones in it ?!?!?! The waitress just said sorry didn't offer anything and was even pissed when I didn't tip. I don't know if this is just bad luck but I don't see how stones get into food. Will not go there again
