Good food!

Pleasantly surprised - good quality and unique foods. I generally don’t go to Michelin star restaurants because of price but this was very reasonable

Pros: Food, Uniqueness

Cons: A little dark if you go in the evening/night

Wonderful meal and ambience!

We decided to have a celebratory dinner at La Bartola while in Toronto and were not disappointed! Everything was amazing from the drinks (including the Be Our Guest mocktail) to the dishes. I chose the taco platter based on other reviews/pics here on Happy Cow and couldn’t recommend it more. I was especially impressed with how the tortillas shone through despite the various flavours and textures, making corn the star of the show. Not to be missed!

Pros: Ambience , Mocktail, Corn tortillas

Absolutely amazing 🤩

After wanting to try this place out for a while now a friend suggested we go, so I made a reservation and we went this evening. It was a magical, wonderful, spiritual, and beautiful experience in many ways.

The food was absolutely delicious and gorgeously plated, the service was almost impeccable and the decor was beautiful. The atmosphere and ambiance was perfect for friends catching up over drinks and food.

I’ll most definitely be going again.. and again.

Pros: The food (beautiful, detailed descriptions), The decor is gorgeous (the artwork, the objects), The service was incredible

100/10 if we could

It is no suprise this is a Michelin rated restaurant. Having gone to AVELO in the city two days prior and trying their 8 course menu (we were here on vacation) and being completely underwhelmed and dissapointed, we were extremely skeptical to do another tasting menu. This was hands down the BEST meal we have ever had- both since we have been vegan as well as pre vegan- both me and my partner agreed. Every single dish the brought out was better than the last. The flavor of every dish was dynamic and full of depth, beautifully plated and our waiter described them each to perfection. Simply amazing and worth the cost. We only wish we had come here twice instead of splurging on the other experience. You live and learn.

Excellent experience

We had the pickled mushroom tostada, Amarillo mole, and taco platter with hibiscus. The tostada and hibiscus taco were my favorite! The cocktails and service were also top notch. I highly recommend!

Pros: Beautiful presentation , Excellent service

Cons: Was off the beaten path from our hotel

Authentic Mexican food

I had the taco platter and the 3 course summerlicious menu last summer. Venue is great, cozy atmosphere, nice presentation. Food is on the spicier side, portion sizes are on the smaller side but still decent enough

Everything was perfect

Heard mixed reviews about this place and was about to pass on it, but I’m so glad I didn’t. Went here for a date night and we both thoroughly enjoyed everything. Each dish was flavourful and unlike anything I’ve tried before. Our waiter was attentive and informative, without being intrusive. Nice ambience and decor.

It is upscale, so of course it’s a bit expensive - but definitely worth the experience! I would definitely come back for another date night or special occasion.

PS. The dish with the hibiscus taco was on Planted Expo’s blog for top Toronto dishes. Great recommendation!

Perfect

I wasn't sure if I was going to come here or not, because some reviews said it isn't worth the price. But I think La Bartola is totally worth it and now I want to come back ASAP. Everything we tried was perfect. All the food was good, every drink was good, the service and ambiance were nice too.

Some of the food took a while to come out, but I'm glad they weren't rushing it. The flavors were perfect.

I highly recommend the White Mole. The Oaxacan Tetela was very enjoyable, too. The Pineapple Tamal for dessert was super interesting and yummy, I had never had anything like it before!

Creative and unique Mexican dining

What makes La Bartola stand out is their fancy and creative twist on traditional Mexican food: not something you find very often. That comes with a hefty price tag. However, it was worth a visit. The vegetables used in the mole and pepian were not your regular ones (celeriac, a type of amazing mushroom, a sweet parsnip, and a few I couldn't identify) and the presentation was beautiful. The vegetables in the dishes were grilled to perfection and the flavors of the white mole created a unique taste that couldn't be attributed to a single ingredient. The pistachio pepian didn't really taste like pistachios either. The tacos were also very tasty although there should be an option to provide spicier salsa for the tacos. This was the mildest Mexican meal I've ever eaten!

The drinks are well-crafted and the service very good. Definitely worth a visit at least once. Would love to try more things on the menu but it isn't a place I could afford to go to often. 4.5

Upscale and delicious

The food here is so good! I’ve been three times and it hasn’t missed. The white mole is heavenly. I also recommend the taco tasting. Really fun and creative cocktails! The atmosphere is surprisingly casual for a place with high end prices, but the taste and quality of the food justifies the price. Good place for a special night out.

Pros: Taste, Cocktails, Fresh

Cons: Price, 2 tour table limit enforced

Excellent vegan Mexican in Toronto!

Another wonderful meal at La Bartola, one of the best plant-based restaurants I have been to. So great to see a plant-based version of Mexican food in Toronto. Lovely location as well, decorations are welcoming and interesting. Staff is friendly and informative. The white mole was particularly good, as was the taco sampler plate. Particularly impressed with the cocktail menu, which is full of delights to discover.

LOVED it but can't justify price

Really delicious. It lived up to the hype for me. The quality of ingredients was high and the dishes were so tasty. However, I think I would rarely return because I can't justify the cost for the portion size and for the ingredients used (e.g, corn, potatoes). I understand that you're paying for the creativity and the dishes they've been able to make but it's a lot of money for a little bit of food.

Pros: Delicious and high quality food, Unique combinations , Very nice restaurant inside

Cons: Expensive

I’ve had too many better vegan tacos for 25% the price… I’m a tough customer! But it is a solid option for sure.

Pros: Many options , Food tasted good , Great cocktails!

Cons: Food wasn’t TOO special , Pretty expensive

I would also sell my soul for a meal at La Bartola

My partner and I had our date night at La Bartola while visiting Toronto. The staff was so friendly and attentive, the decor tasteful and engaging, but the FOOD. The food was out of this world. Textures, temperatures, tastes were all incredible. Will 100% return.

I’d sell my soul for a meal at La Bartola

La Bartola is an outstanding 100% vegan Mexican restaurant with super friendly and accommodating staff. The food doesn’t just taste great, it’s also presented with style and the flavour combinations make you wonder why you would eat anywhere else ever. A non-vegan coworker from Mexico was struggling to find good Mexican food here in Toronto so I recommended La Bartola and they absolutely loved it. If you go, and you don’t like the food, I urge you to rush to the nearest hospital because there is likely something seriously wrong with your tastebuds and it could be life threatening.

Pros: All vegan and all unbelievably delicious , Great presentation (food and drinks), Friendly and inviting

Cons: I wish I lived closer

Lovely experience

We came here because we were forced to cancel our Mexico trip.

Pricey yes, but an absolute experience. Food was delicious and unusual, some special ingredients include cactus fruit, pine nuts, hibiscus sauce, avocado ice cream. Omg the avocado ice cream!

Everything tastes different from food you can conventionally get at other restaurants. Worth it!

Pros: Delicious, Different from most restaurants

Cons: Expensive, but well worth it

Might had caught them on a bad night

The red mole wasn’t that good, the tamal was dry but good. The white mole with some hard root vegetable was good flavor but the parsnip was so hard in the middle (and to big for the tortillas) that 1/3 of the dish was inedible. This was a take out, so maybe that was the issue? I’m willing to give them another try though.

Upscale, authentic Mexican cuisine

Really love what Chef Ivan is doing here. The flavours go way beyond your typical tacos and burritos. They are refined and elegant, the dishes plated beautifully and every dish was totally unique. Also loved the space!

Pros: Unique food , Great cocktails
