Do Not come with children!!! - Edit
We tried to come with an infant strapped to my chest in a baby carrier and they were extremely rude, insisted that the baby counts as a third person and that they would not take us without a reservation- despite multiple tables being open at the time and despite the fact that we had called an hour earlier and were told to come in. I wish they would just advertise no babies allowed. In addition, we tried to come the other day too and had not given notice that there was a private event. Overall, just important to note that no one really speaks English and there is no effective way to communicate over the phone.

Real Find - Edit
Tucked away in a Museum space this small restaurant serves an excellent assortment of Japanese style vegan dishes at a reasonable price.

Incredible Japanese vegan food - Edit
Came across this little place by accident as I got lost in Kyoto and I'm so glad I've found it! Very good value for the money. If you get the large lunch set you get to try everything. Lunch was delicious and ramen was great

Light, nutritious and delicious. - Edit
This our first dining experience in Kyoto and after 5 days I can still say it was the best. The noodles are rice had an impressive depth of flavour, and the side dishes created a very tasty yet light and balanced meal. There was an interesting array of textures, of which some may not appeal to everyone. It seems this place is not so prominent on the veggie tourist's radar, so we shared the restaurant only with an elderly Japanese couple.

Vegan - Edit
Prepared dishes without using garlic, onion or any other non-vegan ingredients. This is in line with the #Veganuary challenge.

So delicious we visited twice! - Edit
Our family really enjoyed the food here. The variety in the set menus was wonderful; every dish was so tasty and unique. The curry was delicious too. Friendly staff and quick service. Both times we visited we got a seat right away, unlike other vegan / vegetarian places in Kyoto!

Restaurant inside museum building - Edit
You can locate MatsutomiyaKotobuki by walking to the museum main entrance and turning right, you'll find it at the end of the corridor.

Food was simple and tasty, but somewhat expensive in comparison to other places.

Simple but tasty Japanese vegan food - Edit
Very convenient location in the Museum of Kyoto, it is wonderful that we have a fully vegan restaurant there now. Dishes are traditional vegan Shojin Ryori (Buddhist temple food) so there are no pungent spices used. Simple yet tasty and nourishing. Very friendly staff as well.
