Great options for the area - Edit
The cafe is limited but still has decent vegan options for the build-your-own-sandwich (it’s either that or soup.) Tofurkey or Field Roast for protein, VioLife cheese, veganeise, hummus, assorted veggies and bread or GF teff wrap.
Read moreThe grab and go out front had a premade tofurkey wrap, pasta salad, vegan muffins, carrot cake, and a few other things - I didn’t notice anything GF, but didn’t look hard as nothing really appealed.
The aisles are filled with good finds and variety. It’s a big space with all I would expect in a health food store. Could use some updating and aesthetics, but that’s secondary.

We shopped at NLC for produce, and were happy with the selection in March. The deli/ cafe had a lot of vegan choices, and everything was well-marked. On the suggestion of the staff we tried the "almond joy" made at the cafe- vegan chocolate and coconut- but it wasn't that great, and fell apart while being opened. I really liked the vibe of the staff and customers. We will definitely be back to shop and try more cafe offerings.

Awesome vegan selection--super helpful - Edit
This is by far the best option for all vegan shopping in town/nearby towns. Nearly everyone you talk to here is knowledgeable of products, substitutes etc. and if not they find someone to help and stay with you as long as you need. Love the wide variety of vegan options. Everything from prepared foods to fruits/veg to supplements and vitamins. I even buy my compostable tooth brushes here--favorite store in town!

Best store in Bangor for vegan shopping - Edit
NLC has a great bulk section and carries vegan staples like non-dairy cheese, fake meats, milks, and ice cream. They also carry Little Lad's popcorn, which is the best!

The Natural Living Center has a great variety of vegan and vegetarian foods, particularly if you are looking for packaged foods or supplements. They have field roast sausage, Daiya, great sorbet, tofurkey, supplies for vegan baking, several brands of vegan chocolate (YUM!), and more. It is also worth mentioning that they have a pretty good selection of beer. If there is something in the store that you want, and they don't happen to have it in stock, they will order it for you. The Natural Living Center makes it much easier to cook good meals, and I feel fortunate to live so close to this store in Bangor.
Read moreI only have two things that I wish they would change about the store. Their produce, although it is all organic, is usually of pretty poor quality. So when I want veggies and fruit, I almost always buy produce elsewhere. The parking lot can be a bit busy, particularly on weekends. However, none of this stops me from visiting the NLC or appreciating all that they have to offer.

The NLC is one of the largest locally-owned natural food stores we've seen throughout the country. They carry 11 varieties of TVP ! Tofurky wraps are made and sold daily in the cafe, and there is always at least one vegan soup, sometimes both. Extensive selection of refrigerated and frozen veg items, Field Roast, Quorn, Tofurky, Tofutti, Sunshine burger, Amy's, Purely Decadent, etc. Large bulk section with numerous varieties of beans, rices, flours, grains, herbs, spices, dried fruits, granolas, etc. Decent ethnic grocery section, especially Asian and Indian products. As of this date at least 10 of the 20 or so staff are either vegan, vegetarian or borderline vegetarian, a pretty sizable representation.
