Great

* soyrizo burrito - very good, 9/10.

Decent amount of vegan options, but would be great to see even more in the future!

Salsa!

The roasted tomato salsa is amazing. Def not the best burrito you can get on Valencia, but the grilled vegetables are great, and if you’re not a fake meat person, the options here are reliably good.

vegan options and lovely veggie burritos

The Mission is packed with burrito places and all are super great yet my favorite burrito is at Papalote. I'm a longtime vegan of 16 years so Mexican food has always been a favorite.

I love Papalote for going the extra mile providing several vegan options including:
veggie with potato, carrot, and mushroom
grilled veggie with eggplant and zucchini
vegan soyrizo
marinated grilled tofu

All of these come with beans, rice, pico de gallo.

I went with the veggie burrito and had them add avocado. It came with chips and a yummy homemade salsa. I will be sure to visit here the next time in the Bay Area as was wonderful!

Pros: vegan options and lovely veggie burritos

Great Salsa!

Although Papalote serves meat, they do have a few vegan options: Soyrizo, a very good tofu mole, and a couple of different veggie burritos. I like the one with potato, carrot and mushroom.

The salsa is exceptional. I wish they offered more variety though, and weren’t so stingy with it.

Service really went downhill

several instances - I asked for water and the guy acted as if I was crazy asking for a glass of water “if you want water you have to pay for it”
Several other things I did where the guy acted like I was doing him a huge favor

Food is still decent, though I would worry about cross contamination

Five different vegan tacos and burritos

Much more extensive vegan options than any other standard Mexican restaurant in the Bay Area. You can get tacos or burritos with one of the following: (1) Soyrizo--my least favorite because the flavor overpowers everything else; (2) Tofu Mole--really good if you dilute it with extra rice and beans; again the sauce is otherwise overpowering; (3) Marinated Tofu--very good; (4) Grilled Veggie--great; (5) Veggie--great. We also take home their salsa in bottles to use as a condiment on all kinds of dishes. Super creamy and you can store it unopened on the shelf.

Pros: Great vegan options for a non-veg restaurant

Cons: Parking is impossible--call ahead and do take out

Seriously decent 4 vegans

the first time I went I got the vegan mole a burrito. I was not impressed at all. The second time I went I got tofu vegan burrito with everything you can possibly put on it, it was hella tasty. The salsa is yummy. It looks like it has something creamy in it - I confirmed with them that it's 100% plants.

I never found any animal body parts contamination in my food like the other reviewers said, but I could see how that would happen in this and other Mexican grill places. there's a lot of meat flying about! if that grosses you out you shouldn't go.

Pros: Tasty classic tofu burrito, Good salsa, Friendly workers

Cons: Meat abounds, Mole is meh

great vegan options

Clearly marked and clearly delicious vegan options here. All of the beans are vegan, and there's two kinds of tofu fillings and soyrizo for the burritos and tacos, plus really well-seasoned veggies to stuff in there. Plus the house salsa is magnificent and seems creamy even though it's vegan. Only wish they had vegan sour cream!

Cross Contamination

I have come here several times. Food is good but not amazing- and a little pricey. Recently, found beef in the bottom of a vegan burrito. Won't be going back

Best Mexican in SF!!!

This place is mouth watering good especially for the veggies. I'm always skeptical of the veg options at authentic taquerias. Is the rice really without chicken stock? How much cross-contamination happens in the kitchen with the meat? But this place I have no fear. So many delicious options. I personally love the mole and soyrizo tacos. Their salsa is pretty incredible too. I always take my guests here. Definitely eat here!

Pros: vegetarian versions of popular meat dishes

delicious

Easy to order, quick turnaround. Lots of options to choose from. Ordered a late night burrito, saved it for our flight out of SFO (not many vegan choices) the next morning. Alas, awesome next-day burrito

Pros: price, size of burrito, they label their beans as vegan

Not Worth It

I used to live in San Francisco & I would get food from Papalote. I have never gone there and had my correct order handed to me. I'm visiting now and my friend & I decided to get take out. We got home and both of our orders were wrong. I was meant to have two tacos and I only received one, and my friend didn't get her chips and guacamole. So I called to complain. The girl I spoke with reluctantly said she would give it to us next time we came in. I called ahead the following day and talked with the manager. She wasn't very nice & kept stating "it's not possible to only get one taco when it comes with two." She also wasn't really answering my questions. But she said she'd get it ready for us and give it to us. We drove back over there and picked it up & got home & my vegan tacos were COVERED in sour cream and cheese!!! I'm only visiting so I have no intention of ever returning. If you like getting your order correct and avoiding the waste of food by having to send it back I suggest going elsewhere. There are so many Mexican food places in SF that are capable of getting order correct and their food is equally as good, if not better. I suggest skipping Papalote unless you want to check your order thoroughly before heading home. But, like I said, they have never gotten my order correct the first time, and more than just this weekend have they gotten it wrong the second. Plus, most of the staff are VERY rude. The food is good, but not good enough to deal with this.

Pros: Food Good

Cons: Bad Service, Mess Up Orders, Rude Staff

No Bueno

I was really excited about trying the food at Papalote because of all the hype. Unfortunately when my "vegetarian" burrito came, it had a huge chunk of chicken mixed in with the vegetables.

Pros: Good Salsa

Cons: Careless with meat mixing with vegetable
