UNBEDINGT reservieren!! Geht am besten via Facebook.

Our best dining experience in Japan so far - Edit
This is our 10th night in Japan and it has been challenging at times to find vegan dinner options, moreso in Kyoto than Tokyo. Fortunately we came across Saishuan Shiraki a few days ago and were able to book through Facebook for our last night in Kyoto.
Read moreNot only was it a great way to end our time in Kyoto, it has been the best dinning experience we've had in Japan. It is a small restaurant with 8 seats, 1 chef (Miho) and 1 assistant (Kana). Both Miho and Kana were warm and welcoming, and by the end of the meal were dressing us in tinsel and banners as we were celebrating a birthday which was great fun. It was a very personal and memorable experience.
The food was also excellent. I couldn't keep track of how many plates we were served but there were so many unique flavours, the surprises kept coming. What looked like just a long plate of individual vegetables, was full of flavour with the tomato tasting like a sweet. Other highlights were inari kiwi tofu pocket, deep fried mochi and Chinese chive in sesame sauce.
Highly recommended. Would give 5 stars if possible

I give them 5 stars!! - Edit
It was a truly unique experience for us. We took the vegan menue and weren't dissappointed at all. They served us a 10 course menue where one dish was better than the other. It was like a journey through the japanese tradional kitchen. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. At the end of the evening everyone was talking to everyone, sharing travel experiences. We really enjoyed the evening and it was definetly a big highlight of our journey.

Deserves 5 stars - Edit
Miho (the chef) is amazing!!!! She is truly a passionate about cooking and that comes through in every dish. There is a vegan set menu that includes 10 creative dishes, I was full before the main dish even came out. My favorite was the kiwi inari - super unique and delicious. Not only is Miho a great chef, she is great to talk to😄We came on a Wednesday night before a holiday and were the only ones in the restaurant. FYI Miho said she can accommodate gluten free menus with 2 weeks notification. Cannot recommend this experience enough!

Really delicious vegan dishes and friendly owner - Edit
Came with a friend and we both got the vegan course menu. All of the dishes were very well prepared and flavorful, definitely one of my favorite vegan Japanese food that I’ve tried. The only thing I wish is that they offer ala carte instead of a 5000yen course menu which can be expensive for people.

Went there late october. Separate vegan menu with lots of options.
Read moreThe owner is super nice and chatty & gets veganism (hence the menu). Portions can be a tad big so it's advisable to share if you want to have a taste on several dishes.
We tried many and enjoyed it all 😋 and definitely want to go again and try the rest! (plus some of the same.. yum!)
Place might be packed since it is small (and delish), easy to check by going there. For us two the little time waiting outside was well rewarded! 😍

Five star vegan food! Hidden gem - Edit
Wonderful little hidden gem of a restaurant where the chef prepares and cooks everything from scratch in front of you. I would have given this place 5 stars but cannot due to it serving meat dishes too (Happy cow rules) but the gyoza were delicious, the sichuan style tofu and lots and lots of other vegan choices! The cumin Edemame are lovely. Thanks!

One of the best Izakaya in town - Edit
Very tasty food, there is as much vegan and vegetarian options as other dishes. Miho-san is such a good host, we had a lovely time. I wish HappyCow would let me rate 5 stars even though it's not a fully vegetarian/vegan place.

Amazing vegan friendly izakaya - Edit
This place rules. Tiny little izakaya ran by the sweetest lady ever. Extensive vegan menu with amazing flavor. I was able to message her on Facebook and secure a reservation within an hour of contacting her. They're open late and her English is really good. She let us look over Kyoto travel books that were in English so definitely come here first in your trip.

Amazing small izakaya with kindest owner - Edit
Izakaya (japanese bar/restaurant) style.
Read moreFood is amazing and the very bubbly owner will make your experience great every time you go. At the same time she will offer vegan or vegetarian set menu or a la carte that she prepares in her small kitchen in front of you. Let yourself be overwhelmed by local ingredients and flavours that she prepares for you.
Seating is on floor but comfortable as there is a whole for legs. If you order the set menu it's not particularly cheap but well worth the experience.
Pros: Yummy tasty dishes prepared in front of your eyes, Ask for vegan set menu, Owner is very welcoming
Cons: Not cheap (but worth it)

The owner Miho san is very fine - Edit
There are few people in Kyoto city because of the virus. But she's still cheerfully making delicious dishes. Takeaway food for stayhome is also popular. New recipes have also been developed for vegans and vegetarians. Miho is a very positive and wonderful woman.

Such a nice experience!
Read moreThe owner is fantastic and nice, she explained a lot about the dishes, Japanese cuisine etc
First we were taken aback by the price, it's pricey.
But it's worth the money, you get a lot of delicious small courses, nice conversations and a cosy atmosphere!
We had the place to ourselves, because kyoto was wiped empty because of Corona virus. Good for us, usually you need a reservation :)
Pros: Vegan Menu, Chef Knies exactly what a vegan diet, Is
Cons: Pricey, 3800 yen per person, but worth it!

Charming, intimate, authentic - Edit
Made a reservation for a Friday evening in February. We had the place just for ourselves, not much traffic now due to the Chinese virus. However, this will change during cherry blossom season and the summer Olympics, so reservation is still highly recommended.
Read moreThe owner was very charming, went out of her way to make our experience amazing, both with her cooking and great conversation. Even though the menu called for a five-course meal, she cooked smaller portions but way more courses so we could try more dishes. Everything was super delicious, and prepared in authentic Kyoto-specific style.
This is truly a gem, amazing experience, one of the top highlights of my trip to Kyoto and Tokyo.
Pros: Very authentic cooking, Vegan option clearly offered in the menu, The owner will tailor the experience for you
Cons: A bit pricey, but totally worth it

Small restaurant with only ~10 seats arranged around the chef. It's a good idea to reserve before you come to make sure to have a seat. The hosts speak perfect English, which makes it easy for foreigners.
