Amazing Taste, Fantastic Owner/Staff

The Gelato and iced rice milk coffee were the best we've had in a very long time. Very original concept from a traditional method. The owner of this family business is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about what he does. The staff was also very polite and helpful. Definitely recommend!

Interesting flavours

It’s hard to find fully vegan ice cream places in Kyoto so this was nice. They make their gelato using soy and seeds. We had to buy a drink to sit in so I had a barley tea which I really enjoyed. We shared a cup of cacao gelato with some cashew based gelato. Both were nice and the seating area was nice.

The person working there was lovely.

Very (!!) tasty gelato

After a long day trip at almost 38 °C we longed for a sweet cooling off and visited SHUKA. The owner welcomed us very warmly and explained the different types of ice creams (of course all vegan 🙂). Not only were there differences in flavors, but also what the base materials were made of (some soybean, others nut). I chose three flavors, cocoa, strawberry and soy-vanilla. My wife had pistachio. All flavors were very delicious, with my absolute favorites being cocoa (you definitely have to try it!!) and strawberry.
Would definitely recommend popping in if you are in the area!

Delicious Gelato, beautiful shop, welcoming owner and staff!

It is a completely artisanal gelato, made with excellent raw materials as the shop specializes in various types of nuts and beans, from pistachio to cocoa, to the famous Japanese asylum beans. The owner has innovated the family tradition of making amanatto, sweet nuts/beans. Everything can be paired with tea or coffee.
The atmosphere is calm and modern!

Best experience in Kyoto

One of the best places we've been to in Japan.
The icecreams were very good (especially the cacao and chesnust ones was delicious) and with choices of very Japanese taste. It was perfect with the Japanese tea.
Also a great place to buy original souvenirs or presents with beans & seeds.
The owner is so nice and welcoming and he's continuing the business of his great grandma (or great great grandma? you'll have to ask him).
The owner speaks English (and even a bit of French)
