Yummy food & great experience

Didn’t hold too much expectation for this place but they definitely surpassed my thoughts. I even had a vegan cake to finish our meal and it was that delicious that I forgot to take a pic before I devoured it!

Pros: A few options and staff happy to explain , $$ not too bad on price

Cons: Would love more vegan dessert options

Beautiful environment

I looked forward to going to this restaurant after seeing the reviews on HappyCow. My husband and I were very happy with our dishes. Loved the courtyard outdoors and the restaurant inside. I recommend making reservations because they stay very busy.

Pros: Beautiful place , Tasty choices

Cons: Very busy , Long wait

DO NOT GO HERE

My family of 8 came here on Memorial Day expecting to eat good food per reviews. We were told they were out of shrimp so that cut off a quarter of the menu. Then the waitress recommended the spicy melt with the catch of the day and we were in for a rude awakening. They served us a little 2oz piece of fish that fit only on Half of the hoggie. We had 7 of these sandwiches so we were extremely disappointed. Not only the shorted portions, but the servers and manager were rude to my entire family. I would not recommend never going to this restaurant.

Very knowledgeable about vegan and veg options. Food was 5 star!

Fab cocktails and amazing food. This is a foodie place catering to all tastes but they know their stuff about veg and vegan options. The tempeh rocked.

Pros: Vegan options like rosemary Dijon dressing A+

Cons: Moderately pricey but worth it!

Great vegetable stew

One vegan with a group of non-vegans. The vegan vegetable stew (5*) has a tasty dark broth (good for dipping bread) with base of roasted tomatoes & garbanzo beans with additional vegs (carrots, onions, etc). Delicious FGT BLT per non-vegan. Multiple deserts (skipped by me) including vegan were great per others.

Pros: Lots of vegan options., Substitute tempeh or tofu for most (all?) meat, Helpful staff. Eat outside if desired.

Cons: Not enough shrimp In poor boy for non-vegans. , Poor boy bread not toasted with butter for non-ve

Lunch at The Floridian

We went there for the 1st time on Thursday for lunch. I had the Elkhorn Salad and Grains. It was delicious. It came with blackened tempeh that I can't wait to attempt to duplicate. My husband had the Winter Salad and loved it. They were super nice in regards to leaving off cheese, so that the dish was 100% vegan! We will definitely go back the next we are in St. Augustine!

Pros: Several dishes that were super easy to make vegan, The staff knew their stuff.

Cons: You have to pay to park., A little on the prices side.

Fresca burrito with blackened tofu is amazing

Yummy all around!! The burrito was hands down one of the best meals I have had in a while. After mentioning I was vegan the waitress let me know if a special vegan sauce they had available that made the burrito delish!! The house vinaigrette is also vegan and so yummy!!!

Pros: Very vegan friendly, Wonderful educated staff

Cons: Have to ask about vegan options not listed

Few options without soy

Not a lot of vegan options other than tofu and tempeh, but they will work with you to create something. Decent flavors, but not going to stop people in the street to tell them how great it was.

Amazing!

The Floridian had it all- ambiance, flavor, fun cocktails. I enjoyed the Vegan Version of the Tuna Nicoise. It was fantastic. Full of flavor, I really wanted to lick the plate! 😋 Only bummer, there was no price drop for subbing tofu.

Pros: Vegan options, Knowledgeable staff

absolutely delicious!

The Floridian was incredible! My family and I stopped there for lunch today and were not disappointed. I got a glass of wine, a bowl of the soup of the day (it was a sweet potato soup with chickpeas and collard greens) and the spring salad with tempeh. The waitress was incredibly helpful with pointing out what was vegan and even giving me options! I will definitely come back here next year when my family returns to St. Augustine. They even had vegan desserts! :)

Pros: quaint , vegan & vegetarian options , pretty extensive drink menu

A couple friends recommended eating here and it's easy to see why; the food was truly delicious! The simple menu boasts recognizable favorites and some unique items, from apps to main dishes & an amazing dessert case. My blackened tofu melt was perfectly done and they have both meat dishes and meatless options. Bravo, Floridian!

Get the 'N Biscuits Vegan Style!

First off, they offered a vegan batter for the fried green tomatoes and fried pickles appetizer and preemptively placed the non-vegan dressings on side plate for my friends. The waitress said most vegans go straight for the veggie burger but that she recommended the 'N Biscuits made with tofu. I am so glad I did! It was delicious and unique. A fabulous sauce, the biscuits being replaced by a vegan bagette.

Pros: On top of vegan options

Cons: It's southern inspired, so high in fried options,

Awesome vegan fare!

I had the DIXIE BURGER which was very meaty and tasty, not to mention large and filling. My wife had the TUNA NICOISE done wth tofu (grilled - excellent) and my daughter had the TUNA NICOISE done with the tempe. he tempe is a bit salty, so be warned - the taste can wear on you after a while. The service was excellent and the friendly staff was very happy to explain the vegan options and meet our dietary needs, despite the busy Christmas rush of tourists. I give this restaurant five stars!

Pros: Vegan friendly and helpful, Tasty meals, Large portions

Cons: Tempe a bit saltly, Parking is challenging

Great vegan options

The waiter gave us the option to make the chicken and biscuits vegan and also the spicy melt. You can tell the food is made with care and plenty of flavor. The spiced vanilla cupcake was amazing.

Pros: A lot can be made vegan

Cons: App won't let me rate 5 stars.

Excellent Farm to Table Food

As a native St. Augustinian and vegan, I love the Floridian! The restaurant is Farm-to-Table, featuring fresh, seasonal dishes made with local ingredients (as much as possible). I do not understand these reviews that say there are limited to no vegan options--they must not have asked or looked hard. The Floridian has excellent salads, a black bean burger that can be veganized, and their seasonal sandwiches/dishes can usually be modified to accommodate vegans. Additionally, they almost always have a vegan soup du jour and multiple vegan options for dessert. I recommend their vegan cupcakes and fruit crisps! They also have an amazing selections of beer, wine, and handcrafted cocktails.

This is a great option for foodies, vegans, vegetarians, and their non-veg friends/family alike. The food is a fresh, innovative take on Southern cuisine and I love the atmosphere. On weekends, it's a good idea to make reservations as it is a popular spot.

Pros: Delicious Food, innovative dishes, locally sourced and organic ingredients

Cons: often has long wait

great food, great service

The waitress we had was great! She went section by section showing me what I️ could order that was vegan (and did the same for my GF friend, tough crowd lol). The food was amazing! I️ split the fried green tomatoes and soup as an app with a friend. The vegan sauce that came with the tomatoes was so flavorful- tangy with cumin. The tomatoes were cooked perfectly too. The soup was spicy but good, it would’ve been perfect with a slice of bread. The entree I️ ordered was supposed to be made with tuna (I️ don’t remember the exact name) but I️ got it with tempeh and it was so delicious. The sauce added a lot of flavor and was cooked perfectly. We didn’t stop there. For dessert vegans have too options: an apple pie or a zucchini cupcake- I️ went with the second. It had a delicious cream cheese like frosting on it. Overall, I️ highly recommend this place for vegans! They had plenty of options for vegans and graciously accommodated.

Pros: good service , great food, variety

Worth the hype!

We were recommended this place by many non-vegetarians (and were a bit skeptical about our options as vegan/vegetarians), but it had an abundance of veg-friendly options on the menu! Tempeh/tofu options were included for the majority of main dishes, and our server was so accommodating to our dietary preferences. They even seated us after we came in just as the kitchen was planning to close, and the atmosphere was lovely outside! I'd recommend this restaurant to all. The veg dishes were outstanding.

Pros: veg friendly options, friendly staff, outdoor seating

good food, wish the menu indicated vegan options

It's hard to travel with young vegan children. I spend so much time on happy cow, Yelp and restaurant websites. My vegetarian sister loved this place and I saw it on this site. It's a great place for vegetarians and a decent place for vegans who like to ask questions. I am neither of those things. We were tired and hungry when we stopped in for lunch. I almost started crying when I looked at the menu until the waitress told me the veggie burger was vegan. It was homemade and delicious!! My 3 yr old wanted it too. She was able to eat half of it but didn't touch the salad it came with. My 5 yr old was super crabby so I got the homemade chip appetizer. I ordered her the fried tofu off the kids menu. It came with apples and corn bread. I didn't let her eat the cornbread as I'm sure it wasn't vegan. She devoured it. There were so many tofu/tempeh options but I had no clue if they were vegan and they all had non vegan sauces. A little green v on the menu and some vegan cheese/mayo would have gone a long way. Our lunch cost a fortune, too! The food was great, I just wish they were more accommodating to vegans.

Pros: good food , nice atmosphere, located in old town

Cons: unsure of what was vegan, expensive for kids not ordering off kids menu

What vegan options?

I was so confused when I went to the Floridian with my family, tonight. We're all vegan, so we chose this restaurant based on reviews. Google even listed it as "Vegan Restaurant."

When we got there, the only vegan appetizer was the fried pickles. I've had good fries pickles, but these were limp and soggy. We then searched the menu to find something we could eat. There was no mention of vegan options on the menu. The restaurant is decorated with taxidermy animals and alligator heads/skulls. 90% of the menu was meat. Most of the rest had cheese. We had to choose between asking the server if the veggie burger and bun were vegan and then ordering without mayo, or a Thai curry dish (unless it uses prepackaged Thai sauces, which often include fish oil). Since the restaurant was packed and was clearly more of a carnivorous type of place, we decided not to bother the staff. We left, and went to the Present Moment Cafe, where almost everything is vegan (including some amazing ice cream!)

This was a bit of a hassle, since I had my extremely hungry three and six year old kids with me, and my husband and I were trying to celebrate my mother-in-law's visit. Reviews mentioned tempeh and all sorts of other veggie foods. We saw none of that.

Pros: Nice area of town

Cons: Not vegan friendly, Decorated with dead animals, Serves mostly meat.
