Fun place to visit

It’s a tourist destination for a reason. Definitely a fun place to visit with a surprisingly high number of vegan items!

You gotta come here

It’s part of the NOLA experience and a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Plus, you’ll find yummy nibbles and fresh produce along the way.

Tourist destination

This is a standard NOLA tourist spot that everybody visiting the town should visit. The vegan offerings are mostly listed separately on Happy Cow (such as Meals from the Heart, and ALbertos), but they do have some other places that serve vegan items if you search. Note that the French Market extends for several blocks past where the marker is indicated on the Happy Cow map--it extends until Esplanade Avenue.

Come here!

Yes it is a complete tourist trap but you still want to come here at least once if you were in New Orleans

Lots of vegan options

Nice shops and lots of vegan food although expensive. The vegan tacos at Meals From the Heart Cafe are especially recommended! Also vegan crepe at Holy Crepes. Had the Le Amore which was great.

Many vegan and vegetarian options here! Traditional New Orleans options!

Many options at several stalls for vegetarians and vegans. My favorite options are at N’Awlins Cafe (look for the sign posted overhead that lists all their Vegetarian Options, such as jambalaya, red beans and rice, white beans and rice, butter beans and rice, greens and rice, and pasta primavera).

Pros: N’Awlins Cafe - Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice etc, Foods From The Heart- Gumbo etc, Crepe Cafe- many different savory veggie crepes

Cons: Market closes early , Great lunch option but not open late for dinner , Gumbo Shop on St Peter good dinner option

Crepe Cart

The Crepe Cart has vegan and gluten free crepes. They use a different crepe burner to cook them on too, so there is no butter transfer. I was also really happy about how kind they were about accommodating vegans and vegetarians. There are several credit cards around town and I told the man serving me that I did not know they had vegan options. He said only the crêpe cart business in the French market has vegan and gluten free. Good to know. And DELICIOUS!!

Had the Vegan Praline Crepe. It was really good. Would have like to try some of the other crepe flavours. Great to find vegan crepes :)

NoLa market of tsotchkes and food

Why would you go to the French Market? Because NoLa visitors go here to see the random wares for Mardi Gras, pictures and paintings from artists and brightly colored baubles. Also, you go here for some good food. There are a few choices that are vegan friendly, which are noted here in the NoLa pages from Happy Cow, but here are the best choices: The Crepe Cart, The Organic Banana and Meals from the Heart Cafe. From these 3 places, you can get some tasty smoothies, crepes, sandwiches and snacks. Those are your best bets.

Be careful as you walk around the market though, you'll see alligator heads and claws, as well as a lot of feathers on the masks.

Pros: Some vegan options, Affordable

Cons: Alligator body parts

Produce and a great drink area!

Aside from all the great produce and random goodies you can get in the French Market, I'm a fan of Organic Banana! They blend up daiquiris and cocktails right in front of you with fresh fruit. So delicious!

Meals From the Heart Cafe

This was the only vegan friendly option that I could find at the French Market. Offers vegan pancakes, shake, vegetable mushroom sandwich, black bean burger, black bean soup & brown rice, Masoor dal red lentils, salads. Great food, great owners -friendly, generous, helpful. Bar dining or take food to community tables about 30 feet away.

Pros: good food, good hosts, outdoor market atmosphere
