Expectations shaddered - Edit
A few days before our trip to Brussels, me and my also vegan husband booked a table at the most promising vegan place in the city.
Read more"The Judgy Vegan" sadly did not deliver the hype we expected from the witty name and look of the menu.
We arrived early, starving and ready to have a fancy nice time since it was gonna be a bit pricy for our budget. I'm gonna list the things we were mostly unsatisfied about:
1. The wait was insufferable. It took 30 minutes to get our starters and one hour for our mains.
2. The food was AVERAGE or MEDIOCRE. In short words, it didn't taste as good as it looked on paper and the presentation was underwelming. The proportions were small and not fulfilling.
3. Therefore, it was too expensive for the amount of food.
4. There was only one waiter on shift and it looked like to us it needed more staff.
Positives:
1. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and very nice.
Pros: Waiter
Cons: Waittime, Food, Price

One of My Brussels Highlights - Edit
The Judgy Vegan was definitely one of the highlights of my trip! The name instantly caught my attention, and the great reviews sealed the deal. I also wanted to give traditional Belgian cuisine a try - obviously only in vegan form - so this was the perfect place.
Read moreThe restaurant itself is quite spacious, with a small terrace outside and lots of room inside. There’s a fun mix of seating: comfy couches and armchairs alongside regular tables and chairs you’d expect in a restaurant. The walls are creatively painted, giving the place a cool, artsy vibe.
Around the bar, they sell lots of vegan products like sweets, plant milks, artwork, and more — such a cool touch!
The service was super friendly and attentive, and the food arrived quickly, even though the server was mostly handling the large space alone.
It was genuinely hard to decide what to order. Even though the menu isn’t huge, everything sounded so delicious!
We shared the broccoli with sesame sauce as a starter. For my main, I chose the XXL schnitzel, while my friend went for the Boulets sauce Liégeoise. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic!
I should mention that the prices are on the higher side, but in my opinion, totally worth it for the quality and creativity of the food.
At the end, we even bought two enamel pins from their little shop section - and I had to seriously restrain myself from buying more goodies.
Definitely worth another visit next time I’m in Brussels!

Creative menu, but €€€ and small portions - Edit
I came here for a drink to cool down and to have a snack. It was nice to go somewhere with a diverse menu.
Read moreThe starter plate was a bit expensive for the size though. The second time I went there and had nachos and the Belgian meatballs, which again were overpriced for the portion size for just ok quality.

Tasty Vegan Eats with a Local Twist - Edit
The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Read moreWe tried the traditional Belgian dish boulettes liègeoises — the sauce was rich and flavorful, definitely the highlight of the plate. However, the vegan meatballs were quite heavy, and it was hard to eat more than one or two. Still, it’s great to see a local specialty offered in a vegan version.

I went there a few weeks ago while I was in Bruxelles and still had time left until my departure. So I went to The Judgy Vegan since I only heard positive things about it - and what can I say? I still miss their Boulets sauce Liégeoise as well as their Limonade Fraise & Gingembre.

We had a traditional Belgian dish (Bouletes Liègoise) and a Schnitzel. Both meals were delicious and the Schnitzel was reminiscent of Schnitzels I had growing up. We finished with a peanut butter cupcake which was a little bit dry but the overall taste was nice. We’ll be back!

Nice typical belgium food - Edit
I ordered the Arancini, the "boulets sauce Liégeoise" and the "Ribs de seitan caramélisé à la sauce barbecue". The only issue was that the ribs were kind of cold when they arrived... Overall, it was really nice to try a typical belgium food and the arancini were really good. And also they have a little shop with some vegan products.

Prima in orde - Edit
Volledig vegan!

delicious selection and shop - Edit
The ‘Boulets sauce Liégeoise’ were very tasty. But the texture was a bit rubbery. The lasagne and cheese sauce were very good. The restaurant is nicely decorated, but unfortunately it's a bit cold and there's a draught. There is also a small shop with vegan alternatives that are not available in the supermarket.

Good belgian food, veganised! - Edit
Went back to BXL after some 4.5 Years, and we ended up at Judgy. Had the Liege meatballs and ribs (with fries instead of mashed potatoes, change request no issue whatsoever) and a number of tasty drinks. Food was good, will try to make a sauce liegoise at home, reminded me of a german Sauerbraten sauce, a tad sweeter, very nice! Didnt manage to have cake or any other dessert, as quite full after the mains.

Great food & cozy restaurant - Edit
Lovely food, we ordered the seitan burger and tofu à la meunàire. Both were delicious. Would suggest to eat the burger with salad instead if fries, because that would make it a bit lighter. Also, great vegan cake options. And a quite big selection of vegan products, from cookies, no-beef boullion and skincare. Also sells cute activist art by vegan activists. Great staff and nice ambiance 10/10 would recommend.

Hello Anya,
Read moreThank you for your feedback.
If I’m not mistaken, your visit was over a year ago (before October 2023), back when we used a thinner and softer lasagna dough, which might have given the impression of being overcooked.
Since then, we’ve changed the recipe to come closer to what most people are familiar with.
I’m sorry the lasagna didn’t meet your expectations and that I couldn’t find a resolution that worked for you. We do take feedback seriously and are always working to improve.
I’m glad you liked the cozy atmosphere we strive to create.
Best,
Julie

Impolite service and homemade style food - Edit
I went there after lunchtime with my friend and every table was full of dirty plates. I found one clean table and went to sit down there. After a while I had to go to the counter to ask for a menu even though the waiters noticed us waiting at the table. When I went there the waiter told me that "we would know where to get the menu if we had waited to be seated" really passive aggressively. That was really confusing to us because we didn't see any guidance to act like this in the restaurant. And later I found out the reason for this was actually because they had a big bow (Christmas decoration?) on the sign that told to wait to be seated, blocking the tex almost completely. Besides that service was slow, we waited like 30mins to get our food and the restaurant was almost empty.
Read moreLasagne was ok, nothing special or to be remembered. My friend liked the boulets dish. Everything tasted like homemade and the lemonade was good. I really enjoyed the little Christmas market they were having in the restaurant. There were a lot of animal/veganism themed stickers, magnets and prints in sale which I liked.
Tldr: rude and slow service, food tastes like homemade nothing fancy, cute little Christmas market in the restaurant was a nice addition.

Hello,
Read moreSorry to read that you did not enjoy the service.
If you came in after lunchtime and you found just a single clean table, that means we were fully booked for lunch.
When a lot of tables eat, drink, then order desserts and then also all want to pay quickly after the other, service takes priority so that it is as fast as possible for every customer. It can then take a moment before we can remove all the dishes and clean all the tables.
Usually customers do greet at least one service person, whether or not they saw the sign.
We do take note of people that we see coming in, talk to them to explain everything and with that plan on when we will check on the table to take the order.
It is really really rare for people to just walk in and seat themselves without saying hello to anyone.
If you just seat yourself, then the waiters probably did not know how long you were there, or did not even realize that you were a new table and not someone that was still there after their lunch.
Our team is really friendly and get great feedback on the grand majority of reviews. It of course depends on how you talk to them as well.
The lasagna is a dish that is cooked in the oven, it does take around 25min of cooking time. Unfortunately it is not a dish that cooks faster, just because there is less tables that need serving.
As you noted, the food we serve is homemade, it does take time to be prepared.
Glad to read you liked our Christmas market.
kisukirsikka
This is exactly what I'm talking about. You are not sorry about the bad customer service, you are blaming us for not knowing how to "play with your cards". If there is no visible signs or greetings for the servers how are we being rude to you by sitting ourselves? And that even happened after we waited for the service on the sofa area before entering the restaurant.
Read moreTheJudgyVegan
I am indeed sorry you did not enjoy the service.
Read moreThat is not something you can decide for me.
That does not mean I agree that our service is impolite or that we have bad customer service.
Everyone in our team is really friendly and works hard to give customers a good experience.
Again, staff is still human though, so just like you, they also like to be treated with respect and kindness.
Greeting service personnel, when you expect to be served, in any business, not just restaurants is not "playing by our cards", is common practice.
We are not playing some kind of weird game.
There is a lot of work that goes into serving people and that servers have to keep track of, playing a game of cat & mouse or find the customer who is moving around spots, should not be one of them.
The sofa at the entrance is not a pick up area for our staff to come get you.
In order to get into the restaurant, you have to walk by the counter.
Instead of just stopping at the counter to actually say hello and make yourselves known, to then come later, to say that you are waiting to be served and do not have a menu and conclude it is rude and impolite to get the explanation that we give all the info when greeting people is honestly just very harsh.
You get the information that you were missing and then make a complaint out of it.
Also here in writing, you say you were confused, when I explain why you got the explanation that you did, somehow then we are out to get you.
You published a review online, as is your right, I answered with the explanations, as it is my right as business owner.
There is no deeper conflict or agenda, this is not a trial.
I wish you a nice Sunday
tofuextremist
The comments and answers from the owner speak for themselves. Having such an attitude in the restaurant business is obnoxious and you successfully prevented me from even trying out your place. TheJudgyVegan spends more time judging their customers rather than reflecting on the criticism they receive.

Thank you for your feedback, tofuextremist.
Read moreWe certainly do not spend more time judging our customers. In fact, we take a lot of time to listen and improve based on constructive customer feedback. As one example, several of our classic dishes have evolved over the years thanks to the insights and preferences shared by our patrons.
We work really hard to make veganism more accessible while providing friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere—and we’ve been committed to this for over seven years. That said, we are incredibly passionate about what we do, and in this case, I recognize that I should have responded with less emotion to this particular review.
