Serves meat, vegan options available. Dinner menu changes frequently, and there is usually vegan choices noted. Will provide for breakfast/lunch if you ask the chef. Examples of veg or can be requested vegan items on the day menu are: quinoa coconut porridge; bircher muesli with almond milk; banana bread ask to pair with coconut sorbet (instead of bacon ice cream); autumn mushrooms; breakfast tacos; kumara gnocchi; cauliflower salad; cornbread smashed avocado; side salad; and occasionally the soup of the day or pasta of the day. Trendy set-up. The business is partnered with a number of local growers. Nov 2017 reported around half of the menu is now vegan. Open Mon 8:30am-3:00pm, Tue-Fri 7:30am-10:00pm, Sat 8:30am-10:00pm, Sun 8:30am-3:00pm.

We had the Vegan trust the chef for our anniversary dinner, and my goodness it was such a treat!

What has happened?! - Edit
This place used to be really good, but they’ve scrapped the vegan menu, and there’s only two vegan mains. We had both of them. They were ludicrously expensive - cauliflower steak for $35! Portion sizes were small. We paid half price via First Table, and we still feel ripped off.

Ok - not horrible, not amazing either - Edit
The staff were quite friendly, being from outside of New Zealand I needed to use the wifi to get an Uber back to our hotel and they were happy to help. They are also great at explaining vegan options with the menu.
Read moreTo start, I had the potato skins (modified to be vegan) which were outstanding. They were incredibly crispy and were served with onions and an aioli. Definitely the best potato skins I've had.
I had the mushroom alfredo as my main. I don't really know how I felt about it - it wasn't bad but also wasn't really yummy either? It was just kind of meh.
For dessert we were offered a veganised apple crumble. The portion was quite big and we couldn't finish between two people. I wasn't really a fan of this. A) because there was a *very* thin layer of crumble - I like A LOT of crumble. B) there were dollops of coconut yogurt on top. I don't really like a strong coconut taste.
The interior design is quite nice but there was barely anyone there so the vibe just felt a bit off. I don't know - maybe on a different night it would have been better.
Pros: Potato skins, Great staff
Cons: Some dishes are meh

Epic Potato Skins - Edit
Best potato skins of my life!! Mushroom Pasta ok but there was something not quite right about the flavour profile. Still good though.

Great dessert - Edit
They offer a couple of vegan starters, mains and dessert. I had the roasted cauliflower as a main which was nice but not spectacular. The dessert however (chocolate cloud or chocolate dream - can’t remember) was AMAZING!! Staff was very friendly and well informed about the vegan options on the menu.

The best vegan food - Edit
One of the best vegan meals of our entire lives. YUM. We had brussel sprouts as a starter and they were seasoned perfectly. I had a cauliflower dish as my main & my husband had a mushroom risotto, both delicious. We then went with dessert, which is rare for us, but everything was already so good we went for it. & my god, life changer! It was a gingerbread cake with caramel sauce, gingerbread cookie pieces & vanilla ice cream. Easily the best vegan dessert we ever had. The bartender guy was super cool and friendly, as was the waitress we had. We were very casually dressed compared to everyone else because we’re doing a road trip around the South Island - I feel like the manager Shannon wasn’t as nice to us because of this, as we saw her being friendlier to other customers. We didn’t mind too much because everything else was off the charts.

Used to be good.. - Edit
I used to go for brunch all the time and it was lovely but they have toned down on their vegan options a lot! And they aren’t as super yum as they used to be. I think the main vegan influence at the restaurant started up moment cafe in town and that’s just so much more amazing! Also portershed is just over the road so why not go 100% vegan?!

Delicious, fresh food and dedicated staff - Edit
Great place for fresh, well prepared food. No boring salads here! A cafe that offers a dual menu of omni dishes and vegan dishes (listed as Honest plates). Even offering a nice piece of fresh baked bread for my curious 8 month old. I had the salt and vinegar rubbed kale salad with quinoa, olives and tomato; the kale and corn arancini balls served with grilled corn on the cob and for dessert the coconut panna cotta with crumble and berries. So nourishing and delicious.

Because they sell meat it won’t let me give 5 stars. This place has great food, only a few options but they’re really nice. A must visit.

5 stars - Edit
We have had the pleasure of dining here for a vegan brunch and a dinner, which included amazing raw deserts. No five star option as it is not fully vegan, but there are at least six vegan main choices and deserts. Fabulous!!
