Awful, don’t go!

This is some of the worst food I’ve ever been served, I couldn’t eat it and I eat most (vegan) things! It didn’t look clean where they were serving from either, I was worried I’d get food poisoning. Don’t waste your money

3.5/5 – Tasty burrito

Zapatista only have one labelled vegan item on their menu (sweet potato chilli filling) but if you mention you're vegan to the staff they’ll tell you what you can get. When we went it was clear that they were used to serving vegans and the staff member serving us was very helpful. You get to choose from two different types of rice, two different types of beans, salsa with varying levels of spice, sweet potato chilli or a mixture of vegetables, and then you can add guacamole and salad if you like. These are all included in the price and any extras you want on top of that you have to pay extra for. I went for a medium burrito and it cost £6.70 which I thought was pretty reasonable. I found it tasty and I would definitely go there again. They also had lots of space to sit in and eat.

Pros: Tasty burrito, Value for money, Lots of space to sit and eat

Cons: Only one item explicitly labelled vegan on menu

quick bite

Not my normsl bag but I was dragged here by someone with lower standards than myself. 😂
Had a burrito and it did the job. We had a 20 minutes deadline and it filled a gap.
Limited but okay if needed.

Pros: quick, staff

Cons: meat

Zap Attack

I've been a regular visitor to Zapatista over the years and the burritos here are pretty tasty, which you can eat in or takeaway. I tend to get either the sweet potato and spicy bean burrito or most recently I got the assorted vegetables and spicy bean burrito for £4.90. As a vegan I cannot order cheese or sour cream so instead I always ask for guacamole as a substitute with a hot sauce and salad on top. There are mild sauces available too so don't worry. It is advisable to inform staff you are vegan. Occasionally they sometimes also have a special vegan option available during vegan week such as the aubergine burrito.

Pros: Fresh and tasty vegan food, Inexpensive, Location

Cons: Serves meat, Could be more vegan options

Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio

I've been meaning to give this place a sniff for some time now. The opportunity came on the first Thursday in March 2017 prior to going to see Peter Hook and the Light at the fantastic Boiler Shop venue which is very close by. The concept is a bit like Subway. Start at one end of the counter and work across. First you pick your meal (burrito, fajita, quesadilla, nachos, chilli and rice or salad bowl). By the way, I don't waste my time on salads just in case anyone wondered or even cared. I went for the Burrito which was first heated on a grill plate in preparation for filling. Next the rice. I chose the lime rice. Then I asked for a vegan filling which was a delicious sweet potato and kidney bean chilli. Other stock components were then added from the large selection available such as onions, tomatoes and jalapeños. Guacamole was used as a cheese substitute which made me more than happy. Lots of sauces to choose from. I went for the hot chipotle. The hotter the better really. Next time I may try the hot Zapata made with scotch bonnets if I'm feeling brave. This was then wrapped nice and tightly in a piece of foil. I washed it down with a Mexican beer. What else? I even added some more chipotle sauce at the table. £5 will get you a burrito and £3.20 ish gets you a bottle of beer. It's the Zapatista way.

Pros: great concept, fresh & tasty, location

Cons: meat served
