Not actually vegan - Edit
Be wary! I ordered the smashed avocado that was labelled vegan in the menu. It came with an egg and the toast was sitting on bed of tzatziki, so I couldn’t even eat around it. Very sad. My partner had the vegan burger and liked it (and that seemed vegan)

Wouldn't recommend - Edit
Got there at 3pm there was no food available other than a vegan burger which is a pretty regular not great burger with a Beyond patty or similar which I personally hate
Read moreService wasn't great either
Coffees look good but didn't ask for any

Good if you're staying at the Kyoto Rings - Edit
The food is nice and there are a couple different options but the portions are small for the price. Convenient if you're staying at the three rings hotel and want a light breakfast or dinner close to base.

Solid breakfast option - Edit
We got the vegan breakfast plate (Joghurt with berries, cream soup with vegetables, plate with salad, cheesy broccoli, quinoa, chickpeas, meatballs, potato-thing). It’s not really enough to share, more like one bite of everything.
Read morePlate also includes one drink.
We also got the rice flour banana bread. Which was a little dry but not bad.
Vegan options are labeled as such on the menu.

Would avoid - Edit
Only breakfast place I could find that was open. One option with a variety of different foods that includes a coffee with it. Wasn’t worth the price (2000 yen). Staff are nice though and is located near Nishiki market which is helpful.

Great burger and hotdog - Edit
The vegan burger and vegan hot dog were delicious. The small side of fries that came with them were hot and crispy. Really enjoyed the meal, even if the portion sizes were a bit small. Should have ordered more fries…

Would give 5⭐️ - Really nice cafe with good vegan options - Edit
Really nice coffee. Very VERY good service. So friendly and accommodating. The breakfasts are fantastic! If you ask for the toast (campagne style) with avocado, they will bring it out as smashed avo on toast. Just be sure to say that you’re vegan as it’ll come out with an egg if you don’t mention it. (1st visit mistake - you’d think we would’ve remembered after being vegan for many years…😆). We got it right by the 2nd and 3rd visits - yep, this place is that good, it’s worth returning to for such great food, coffees and service. (Did I mention the soy flat whites are AMAZING?!?)

Comfort Food Available Late - Edit
8.30pm on a Saturday is not a good time to find vegan options in Kyoto. Common Well was one of the few places still open. We got vegan burger, vegan hot dog and focaccia with olive oil. These were all good. The total bill including a main for my carnivore friend and drinks including a beer came in under JPY6000.
Read moreTechnically closes at 10 but kitchen 915-930. We had to order quick at 850 arrival to be allowed to eat in.
Burger and hot dog both nice and would happily eat again. Portions are small though so beware if hungry.

Thanks to happy cow for helping me find somewhere to get vegam food after 7pm. They have a selection of clearly marked vegam food and desserts, and most drinks can be made vegan.

Good vegan burger - Edit
Good place if you want a quick snack. The restaurant has a small menue with 2 vegan options for lunch (burger, and smashed avocado on bread). We were there at lunch time and ordered the vegan burger with french fries. The burger was small but really delicious! The potato wedges were not my favourite (a little bit raw). They also serve a vegan coffee-banana smoothie which was great.

Generous vegan breakfast - Edit
They have a small separate plant based menu, which is nice. I had the vegan breakfast and it was generous! Delicious and the staff were lovely. I thought it was a bit expensive for breakfast but not a lot of places are open early enough for breakfast so it was a good choice.

Cute coffee shop and cafe - Edit
Finding a coffee shop that had alternative milk options proved to be a challenge unless you wanted Starbucks so I’m so incredibly glad we found Common Well! They have delicious coffee (including a latte with vegan ice cream!) and we also had the vegan burgers and avocado toast. We visited multiple times during our stay. The ambience is super modern and cute, the staff was very kind (although English is limited so be sure to have some knowledge of Japanese or a translating app) and they had multiple other options including a seasonal pineapple soda with vegan ice cream. Highly recommend!

Chef goes home even if you reserve a spot for dinner. - Edit
We reserved a table for 6:30pm, dinner service. We arrived at 6:15 and were seated, and given cafe drink menus. When we asked about the dinner menu, we were told the cafe food time had ended. We reiterated that we had a reservation for dinner and were informed the reservations were only for seats. If we wanted to eat dinner we were supposed to have DM'd the chef on Instagram, something that wasn't listed anywhere on their site or other reviews we'd seen.
Read moreThe place was cute and it seems like it would be good, but after specifically trying to find vegan food in the area, it was a huge bummer to leave on an empty stomach.
Pros: Cute place
Cons: Not getting to eat, Unclear reservation and food service times
