Excellent service, high quality food - Edit
Very positive surprise! I’ve had not so great experience with Gys at Voorstrat so basically wiped out this chain from my map of restaurants, but this branch was completely different. I had a miscommunication with my friends and they booked a 3-course meal before a film, but we didn’t actually have enough time to eat all of it and make it to the movies. The staff were really accommodating and packed our food and desserts, sped it up and even found us some wooden cutlery so we could finish in the cinema. They didn’t show the slightest annoyance at our poor planning, which was very sweet. The food was very solid, clearly with attention to the variety of textures, which I really liked. The flavors were very “Dutch”: mild and not particularly contrasted, but the texture made up for it. Also, someone in the kitchen really really likes dill (ok for me). Sadly not fully vegan as they serve cow milk but 5 stars because of the great service 🙂

The food was fine but not something I will remember for a very long time. It’s ridiculously expensive so you’d expect a lot, but don’t get anything that’s worth the money, especially the dessert was very small compared to what you pay for it. The coconut soup is very boring, the risotto is okay but tastes somehow worse with every bite you take, and the cookie ice cream is no better than ben and jerry’s.

Regarding the pricing, we offer high-quality, locally produced and most of all 100% organic ingredients in our dishes. On top of that most of the food we serve is home made (sauces, cheeses, drinks etc.). Therefore, we can be a bit more expensive than other places.
Regarding the food itself, we're sorry to hear that it didn't meet your expectations. Your feedback on specific dishes such as the thai coconut soup, sunflower risotto, and dessert is valuable we will definitely discuss this with our kitchen team as well.
On top of that we will address the issue of the music and slow service with our floor team.

Wel een beetje zwaar en eigenlijk teveel voor een lunch maar o zo verassend.
Leuk geserveerd, zeer vriendelijke bediening en met uitgebreide toelichting. Het antwoord op een vraag werd zelfs speciaal voor ons opgezocht.
Ook mooi dat hier veel aandacht wordt besteed aan verantwoord ondernemen, niet alleen qua klimaat maar ook fair trade.
Pros: verrassend en vriendelijk en vegan, verantwoord
Cons: sapjes vond ik minder lekker maar dat is smaak

Dit komt voornamelijk omdat we 100% biologisch zijn en heel veel zelfgemaakte producten hebben. Aangezien we dit erg belangrijk vinden (en zo ons steentje bijdragen aan het klimaat) kunnen prijzen hoger zijn dan bij andere restaurants. Very impressive dinner experience - Edit
Me and my mom (both vegan) went to Gys, which I found out about after an online search for vegan restaurants in Utrecht. I had reserved a spot on the terrace, which was nice, if a bit cramped. Lots of plants, friendly personnel. We both took the three course diner option, starting with a Thai coconut soup each which we really liked. Big fan of the shiitakes in it. For the main course my mom got the Shroom Steak and I got the Kapsalon. Both were super good, I was especially impressed with the mushroom steak and snuck in a lot of bites from my mom's plate (with her permission). It was unique and very well seasoned. The kapsalon was great too, I was super impressed with the vegan "cheese" on it. Fries as a side were very good too. Our desserts, The Orange One and Chocolate Dream, were very nice as well. I was impressed with the elderflower ice cream.

It's a 10 minute walk from Utrecht Central trainstation. Lovely people, nice decorated alternative restaurant with great food. Ive had dinner here with my girlfriend. Also assistant-dog friendly! We've enjoyed our dinner here!
