So salty - Edit
Disappointed at how SALTY everything was, coming from someone who loves salt.
Read moreThe garlic dumplings, mushrooms, pine nut burnt butter looked nice but was very salty, and besides salt, could only taste the plethora of pine nuts in it.
The hummus had a lovely smoky flavour at first taste, but the more I ate the more salty it got.
Cons: Very salty

Oil overload - Edit
Maha presents itself as fine dining. It definitely isn’t. The excessive use of oil across nearly every dish quickly became unbearable. Their hummus is a strong contender for the worst I've ever had. The whole experience left me feeling nauseous from the oil, and that's without finishing all dishes.

Second visit and can't wait for the next. Fabulous food, service & ambiance. We had the lunch Soffra menu with the addition of the snacks. Everything was superb & we rolled out of there clutching our stomachs & groaning.

Fancy, unpretentious, delicious - Edit
This is a great place to splash out a little. It’s excellent value given that the food is really interesting and creative. We had the soufra menu with wine pairing which I would highly recommend! Service was excellent, they really couldn’t be more accommodating or welcoming. All the dishes were great, but the lentil dumplings were stand out, and the hummus was so smoky - to die for!

Separate vegan menu, lovely for a special occasion - Edit
I’ve been here a few times now and I’ve always found it delicious. They have a set vegan menu and today I had lunch there. It wasn’t too busy and at least it was cool in there. The entrees were particularly spectacular. Zatar bread, hummus, zucchini felafel and a salad with vegan feta, tomatoes and cucumber and olives. All of the entrees were great with a special mention for the zucchini felafels. Everything about these were delicious with the flavour being really tasty. For mains we were given saffron pilaf, warm summer beans and Turkish red dumplings. The beans were a little plain but I loved the dumplings. Then we were served dessert if Turkish delight donuts with almond sorbet. The service was good and the food nicely presented. It would be good if they brought out serving spoons for each dish given you are sharing the dishes.

Fabulous experience! - Edit
Lovely restaurant with beautiful staff and the food was amazing! Catered for vegans without any problems. A separate vegan menu was available and a lot of the dishes were accidentally vegan anyway. It was a very fancy place (we are not) but we weren’t made to feel uncomfortable. Heaps and heaps of food. It was expensive, but it was worth it for the experience for a special occasion. The wine pairings were awesome too.

This was my favourite Melbourne restaurant before I became vegan some 3 years ago and I was SO pleased that it continues to cater so well for me now. Wide selection, seasonally changing menu and a no fuss attitude to catering for any dietary requirement.

Wonderful restaurant - Edit
I have been to Maha twice as a vegan and I have left as satisfied and full as previous times as a non-vegan. They offer different levels of degustations with some sharing plates and some individual. Every dish has been thought out well with ingredients cooked and seasoned beautifully. Definitely a restaurant worthy of special occasions and it is a bit pricy however you definitely get your money’s worth with wonderful staff and amazing food.

Marvellous Maha ! - Edit
On our latest long weekend vegan visit to Melbourne Maha was high on the list of places to go. We had the 4 course vegan degustation with matching vegan wines. It's not really a degustation as each course was full size...and delicious. A wide range of dips and snacks to start and then into an entree and main followed by one of the most deliciously decadent vegan desserts I've ever had. All that along with a sommelier who was happy to be seeking out vegan wines for us. What a night !

the best food ever - Edit
Maha makes food from another dimension, it seems more than just food but an experience. for a (very) special occasion it is more than worth it- it will be something unforgettable. The staff were brilliant and accommodating. We had the 6 course meal- but some of the courses were so large they would count as a meal in themselves

Had a wonderful dinner. Chose the 4 course set menu - all vegan! It was expensive, but delicious and with more than generous servings. Had to roll out, I was so full. I can't even imagine how big the 6 course must be.

This place is THE BEST - Edit
Okay, milestone birthday needed to wine and dine. Contacted Maha - vegan with wheat and soy intolerance - told, 'NO problem, and it wasn't.' Turned up, friendly greeting - 'You're the vegans,' shown to our table then indulged in a night I will never forget - the food was sublime and fortunately (sitting opposite two meat eating guests) not obviously 'meaty' in look or smell. The maitre d', Ross, quivered a bit when we said we didn't want wine that was not vegan, as part of our course and wine matched menu (we suspect not all the vegan wines come by the glass) but he simply said, 'That's not a problem, leave it to me.' He then produced vegan alternatives that were heavenly. Each course was announced by our waiter as he described what we were looking at you could feel your mouth watering. We were the last in the restaurant but at no point did we get a sense we were being elbowed out. All the waiting staff turned up to sing Happy Birthday over my wonderful, perfect, and unusual cake. Afterwards, I found out Maha, is celebrity chef Shane Delia's restaurant and that he had personally over viewed my menu - both to ensure it was vegan, wheat and soy free but to make sure it was perfect for my special event. It is a shame this is not a veg restaurant but do not ignore it for that or you will lose out. What more can I say but - GO THERE! and weep for us who were only briefly visiting Melbourne.

Special occasion, special place - Edit
Maha is not vegetarian, but don't hold that against it. They do an amazing job catering. If you let them know when you book, they will bring out a vego menu for you to chose from (vegans no probs). I went the vegan banquet last time for a birthday celebration and I was not disappointed.
Read moreThey take care to provide innovative, beautifully presented dishes that are amazing in the combination and depth of flavours. Even dessert.
Service is impeccable, decor is calming and there is a substantial cocktail/drinks menu.
It's a expensive. But it's worth it to feel really special and looked after.
Pros: Decor, More formal dining, Amazing food
Cons: Expensive, Must book far in advance
