I had to watch someone else eat my food - Edit
We came here because everything else was closed. They didn't have a lot of fast vegan options and I was starving so I ordered the Vegan Gourmet Breakfast. There was one other table in the whole restaurant and they gave my breakfast to that table. They didn't realize the mistake until they tried to give us someone else's food and we said something.
Read moreThey remade it for me but it took a while and they weren't very apologetic. Overall it was OK, which is saying a lot considering I was ravenous. The vegan sausage was pretty flavorless and the beans were cold.
Other reviews were good maybe we just came at a bad time.

Decent cafe brunch - Edit
We got the heuvos rancheros with tofu scramble and the vegan nachos. I thought the scrambled tofu was good but needed way more seasoning. The nachos were good, we should have added guacamole to elevate it further but oh well.

Good food and service - Edit
Good food - the burger in particular was delicious. The Big breakfast was OK - but nothing ground breaking. I've given this 5 stars based on the excellent service. Not only was the waitress/waiter lovely, but a new parent forgot her purse, embarrassed was about to get up and leave, but the owner let her eat and come back and pay later.

How did I not know about this place? - Edit
I visit Auckland a lot and can't believe I didn't know about Postal Service. I did visit many years ago when it was Kokako and found it disappointing for vegans. However that is not the case now and I think in this new iteration it is actually great for vegans.
Read moreThe menu is very vegan friendly and the cabinet had lots of vegan options too. It was hard to chose as they were many savoury and sweet options that really appealed to me. I had the matcha waffles and I have to say they were fantastic. I am not a fan of matcha anything so took a punt on these but it paid off as they were excellent and had lots of extra elements like a crunchy biscuit crumb sprinkle by the ice cream scoop. Loved it.
I also had the iced chocolate - I do not recommend this as it really did taste like cocoa powder stirred into a bit of milk and a lot of water. I always hope that a vegan iced chocolate will come with a scoop of ice cream and a whipped cream topping and is all creamy and chocolatey like it usually is for non-vegans but alas this was not the case.
One member of our party is having chemo and is immune compromised and can hardly ever eat out for this reason because few people working in cafes wear masks now. I was impressed to see our server was wearing a mask and he didn't even know we had an immune compromised person in our group. This says a lot and shows respect to patrons, helping keep everyone safe. Plus he was helpful and friendly so a big thumbs up here.
Everyone else I was dining with enjoyed their meals. We will be back.

Best Vegan Cafe in Auckland - Edit
Probably the best and most under-rated cafe in Auckland. They have a substantial non-pretentious fairly priced food offering and nearly the entire menu is vegan with lots of ready cabinet options(sweet and savory). The service is on point and friendly. The cafe is light, comfortable and airy. There is some outside seating too when you come with your doggo family members. Can usually find free street parking around.

Great options - Edit
Friendly staff and heaps of vegan options (only one thing on the menu couldn’t be made vegan). I tried the hash, which came with broccolini, and lots of other goodness. My companion had the fritter bowl, which he enjoyed. They had run out of nitro cold brew, but made me a nice iced americano instead. I’m definitely keen to return and try more.

Great wee place - Edit
Went here for my first time yesterday and it was great! A good atmosphere to study and a good menu with heaps of vegan options. We didn’t even notice that we’d waited a while for our food but the server seemed really apologetic about it and gave us a free banana cake 🥳🥰

Generous servings! Yay. - Edit
Bright and airy. Staff is happy to veganize almost any dish. GF options too. Lots of different seating options & areas. It may be a bit pricey but the servings are almost double the size of most other trendy cafes. I loved the mushrooms and greens.

Nice but a bit pricey - Edit
I like the interior, the number of vegan choices, and what I tried until now (wrap, avocado & hummus toast) was really quite delicious - special mention for the toast, sounds simple but the flavors were excellent, with roasted hazelnuts and a sweet lime topping. BUT it's really quite pricey, you feel that you pay the premium for "the place to be". And I find it quite shocking that they charge $1 extra for soy milk in the coffee. They can make 10 coffees out of a carton, and that's $10 for them, for something they've paid $2 max!

Cute place, busy, nice food, a few vegan options - Edit
We went on a scorching public holiday weekend and it was very warm inside with seating at the bar only. Coffee and food were fine. The staff forgot my partner's meal and only brought him his side of avocado. They were apologetic and then cooked it and brought it out quickly.

really impressed! - Edit
I've really missed going out for breakfast since ending up in hospital due to seafood cross contamination of my food. Really interesting breakfast options, spunky decor (just like a cafe in Stockholm I was in last year) and friendly staff. What's more I had intelligent responses to questions about the pink sea salt and degree of gluten containment. Well done! I'll be back soon!

Kokako - Edit
Coffee is great however I have rarely had the patience to eat here due to how busy it is. Meals can take a LONG time and staff often seem quite flustered but if you are after a high energy cafe this is a great location to take vege or non vege friends for classic breakfast options. For a vegetarian cafe, the vegan options are surprisingly limited but the avocado on toast is great.

Nice place with solid vegan options - Edit
I have always been a fan of Kokako - since its first incarnation in Parnell. It has now moved to a bigger space in Grey Lynn and I'm still a fan - mostly. Their coffee is delicious and they have vegan hot chocolate too. They also have carefully marked vegan wraps, but they have removed some of their yummier vegan options - like curried scrambled tofu - from the menu. We still managed to find some good vegan muffins and a lovely oatmeal/porridge, but they no longer go out of their way to mark options for vegans as they once did. Vegetarians will have a field day here, and there is enough for vegans to get by, especially if you like wraps. Smoothies and coffees are a plus here too.
