Lovely food - Edit
Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We had the laksa, tofu pancakes, satay tofu and banana frittas for dessert. We loved the food! It was comforting and delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again to try more dishes.

Lazy and oily food - Edit
I really don’t get the hype :((
Read moreThe food is all deep fried and very oily(which I understand is typical of Malaysian food). We ordered the fried mushrooms and it was just fried batter, no mushroom at all! Definitely not worth £7.5 for that kind of appetiser and quality of food. I got the laksa curry noodles and that was ok but again not enough fresh ingredients! It came with deep fried wontons??? Just felt like very lazy food which some may find tasty but definitely not for me.

Heavenly experience - Edit
Absolutely fantastic foods served in a cosy atmosphere accompanied by superfriendly staff! The place is quite small so I highly recommend you book a table beforehand. Managed to get a table without a reservation, but the place filled up very quickly. Lots of Malaysian dishes served with the greatest of customer attentiveness. Their tea selection was small but the ginseng tea we ordered was fantastic! So were both starters, mains and desserts! Can't recommend enough!

Always adore the food here and it's my local 😀. Have gotten into the habit of doing reviews only when travelling but this place deserves high praise. Great atmosphere, fantastic food. Usually busy, so you should reserve in advance.

The BEST vegan food - Edit
The food here is absolutely beautiful. It was hard to decide what to get because everything sounded so wonderful. We went with the Rendang Lion's mane mushroom and Soul's Special deep fried tofu for our mains and deep fried cabbage ball and crispy spring rolls to start. All of which were beyond delicious! The service is also amazing! So friendly and attentive. I honestly can’t say enough good things and will absolutely be back to try everything on the menu!!

Amazing food! Very friendly place - Edit
We ate there on a Saturday evening before a gig at La Belle Angele, nearby.
Read moreThe food was absolutely delicious and all the staff were lovely and very friendly. I had messed up the booking as accidentally booked the next day, but the owner (I think she was the owner) found us a table anyway and was very understanding.
We had the special, coconut rice, with all sorts of other dishes with it, including crispy fried tofu skin and potato curry, and all the flavours were amazing and beautifully presented. We also had the rendang lion's mane mushroom, which we loved! The fried noodles we had on the side came with beansprouts and were so tasty!
We would definitely return here if we were back in Edinburgh again as it was such lovely food.
Pros: Food was delicious!, Very friendly, lovely owner/ staff, Really good choice of food

Seriously impressed - Edit
We have been looking for exactly this type of vegan restaurant in Edinburgh. A place where you don’t miss anything from your dish because the flavours are spot on, the service is quick, portions are perfect and everything is reasonably priced.
Read moreWe had the laksa, the sweet and sour and the rendang lion’s mane dish as a take out with the cabbage balls as a side. What a treat! Cannot wait to be back for more and try everything single dish on the menu. So happy to have a fully vegan menu to choose from with no limitations or compromises on flavour. It’s definitely our new favourite place.

Seriously tempted to move to Edinburgh just to frequent this restaurant regularly! - Edit
Visited Soul Vegan whilst on a break in Edinburgh and omg so glad that I did! The restaurant, although small, is lovely inside. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming and as for the food… Wow. Seriously if you enjoy good food do yourself a favour and pay this little gem of a restaurant a visit. Neither you, or your tastebuds, will regret it.
Read moreI had the Gan Lau Me with Char Sui &Wonton, whilst my partner had the Rendang Lion's mane mushroom, both of which were absolutely heavenly😄I wanted to try everything on the menu though.
Portions were generous and so full of flavour, definitely some of the best food I’ve ever had in a restaurant.
Can’t wait to go again the next time I’m in Edinburgh.
Pros: Excellent food, Great value, Friendly staff

One of the best vegan restaurants I ever ate at - Edit
OK, I'm a bit late with my review, but better late than never. We visited this restaurant in November last year and the visit is still fond in my memories. The service was amazing, we had a good talk with the waiter, and the food was absolutely great! As I'm writing this, I'm already thinking of my next visit there😄We had "King Oyster mushrooms with lemon sauce" and the pineapple fried rice. Amazing!!!

What a find! - Edit
Loved it here, sad we only found it on our last day in the city or we'd have eaten here every night, well maybe not every but most nights. I had one of the specials and my wife had the rendang curry with tofu which was altered to her request.

Absolutely wonderful!! - Edit
Completely blown away at how wonderful this gem is - as a fairly recent convert away from meat I can confirm the char Sui is as good or better than the pork equivalent. Tofu satay is a dream and rounded off with magnificent banoffee fritters and ice cream. So very pleased to have found this place!!

Taste sensation! - Edit
Got delivery from here so can’t speak for the restaurant experience but the food was absolutely amazing. I tried the laksa noodles, sweetcorn fritters and the gyoza and all were fantastic. If I’m in Edinburgh again I’d definitely like to eat in and try some different things from the menu as it all sounded great. Was exploring the city and found out about this place from some local vegans doing street activism so a big thank you to them for this recommendation!

Incredible flavours - Edit
Hands down one of the best vegan meals we've ever had. We've been vegan for over 4 years and during that time have travelled around Europe sampling as many different restaurants as possible. After a long day in Edinburgh we called Soul Vegan to try and get a table and despite the fact it was Saturday and they were very busy they did their best to get us a table.
Read moreAs we're not familiar with Malaysian cuisine the staff were extremely helpful with helping us choose a few dishes.
We ordered the satay tofu, salt and pepper lotus, Laksa, and Gan Lau Mee (between 2 of us). Very generous portions (we could not finish everything) and absolutely incredible flavours!
PS: we highly recommend trying the Laksa!

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A PEANUT ALLERGY - Edit
Everything in this restaurant contains peanuts and even the non peanut dishes are cooked in the same wok. Peanuts didn’t even cross my mind when I was in Malaysia and were not an issue. The food that I did have was too plain and I would not recommend.
