This restaurant is exactly what you pray it is - amazing French vegan food. Honestly, it was so hard to pick what to get. The waiter suggested Escargot and Coq Au Vin. Of course, he said he could only one favorite. It has been so long since I had proper French food. I could have cried. Come here!! 🥹❤️

Like being in Paris - Edit
I avoided this little restaurant for a long time because I thought the food would be heavy and greasy; I wish I hadn't. The chef is extremely talented and doesn't resort to any of the usual easy solutions. I've been here three times so far and plan to return soon. I like to start with the tapenade, have the coq au vin, and finish with the crêpe "la Francinette" or the crème brulée. The coq au vin is excellent. While it's true that the "chicken" is softer than the flesh of a dead bird would be, that is clearly an intentional decision on the part of the chef. I would rather eat that delightful creation than some tough fake meat. The flavour of the sauce is excellent.
Read moreI had the bœuf bourguignon once, but it was too spicy for my taste. I also tried the verrine de saumon and the galette "Mr. Petrossian", but it was too much like eating real sea animals, which put me off a bit. I understand that vegan chefs enjoy the challenge of recreating certain flavours, but the longer I'm vegan, the less I want to eat something too reminiscent of dead animals. This is why I love the coq au vin: it does an excellent job with the sauce but doesn't try too hard to imitate animal flesh.
The last time I was there, a homeless person walked in and accosted my partner. The server was there instantly, politely and gently led the person outside, and locked the door. It was a totally classy way to deal with the situation.
Pros: An extremely talented chef, Excellent service, Great ambiance

Good service, disappointing food - Edit
This tiny restaurant provided excellent service and started strong with an excellent cheese plate. However, the entrees were a disappointment. Vegetables overcooked, texture of “chicken” was squishy- nothing approximating meat (we’re long time vegans and have eaten lots of meat alternatives). The crepe for dessert was soggy and flavorless.

A real gem - Edit
Such a treat to be able to enjoy authentic French food... but vegan! I had the cheese platter, the Poulet Basquaise, and a sweet crepe with roasted pears, melted chocolate, and whipped cream. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge! Wish I could try everything on the menu.

I have never had a bad meal at this place. Their vegan spins on French dishes are really fun. You will not be disappointed, unless you think you’re going to just walk in. You definitely need a reservation for this small space.

Beef bourguignon wowww - Edit
It was totally lovely to finally be able to eat this style of French food again! Since going vegan and living in hotter climates they didn’t really have this! The gravy, potatoes and carrots were faultless and perfectly done! The herbs and seasoning was perfect! Nothing I can add or change to that! They only thing I would say, as a whole foods vegan, the Pea protein meat substitutes aren’t the best! Lots of substitute meat which wasn’t the worse I’ve had but overall would have loved a whole food option instead! Totally cute place there and flavours were next level and perfectly cooked!

What an experience! Small, cozy restaurant a short walk from Washington Square Park. Dining room is small and intimate, and there was enclosed and heated outdoor seating.
Read moreEverything we ordered was magnificent. The wine was excellent and really stood out. Service was great, and portions were perfect— we were able to finish our appetizer and entrees and share a dessert. We ordered a sweet crêpe for dessert, and it was perfect and not too sweet. A bit on the pricy side, but WELL worth it. My only regret is that I didn’t take any photos!

Ooh la la! UPDATE - Edit
I returned recently and all is still well here. Thank goodness 😅
Read moreI think I’m in love. Being completely plant-based now for 3 years, I thought I had put traditional French cuisine behind me. NOT SO! Delice & Sarrasin is a marvel. Small, chic and owner/family-run and located on a lovely block in the West Village. This was my first visit (how had I not been here sooner?!). I had a glass of vegan Chardonnay and VERRINE DE SAUMON, AVOCAT & BOURSIN to start. The dish was flavorful and had great textures. Next I had the BŒUF BOURGUIGNON (how could I not?) which was my first experience of mock meat made with pea protein (reminded me of seitan, only more tender). This also was very flavorful and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. And finally, I finished with a LA FRANCINETTE dessert crepe. Oh my...that was vegan dessert perfection. And, best of all, the food was not overly oily or greasy (very important for those of us concerned about healthful eating).
Additionally, the service was excellent. The music was just loud enough to set an atmosphere.
I will be back.

Good French cuisine in a lovely place - Edit
The restaurant is cosy, and the food is good. We all had the galettes (around 16$ each) which were good, although some of them rely heavily on plant-based cheese (maybe a bit too much for my taste). The "mousse" was good, but it wasn't a mousse texture-wise though. Staff was very nice also.

Fantastic, Could Be Even Better - Edit
OK, so the location is wonderful. The ambience is… well, it’s up to French bistro standards (great for a good friend or special date)! The wait staff is charming. The menu is large without being intimidating, and has all of your French favourites. The food was for the most part delicious- I did the foie gras (I know), coq au vin and crème brûlée.
Read moreSo what do I mean by “could be even better”? Two things: (1) while I appreciate a tightly curated selection of vegan wines, I suggest the restaurant leans in (as the champion of vegan French cuisine) with a more extensive selection, and (2) the low point of the meal was the fake chicken. In fact the coq au vin was beautifully done- the sauce was lovely, the veggies prepared just right. However, for this former omnivore, the chick’n was not of the right consistency. And that may be fine when the chick’n is tucked away in a burrito, but not when it’s meant to be the star of the show. Let’s face it, chicken’s tough… pun intended. I would either play around with other chick’n formulations or even third party products that perhaps are not whole drumsticks but at least give you the right texture. Alternatively, just do the sauce with vegetables! It was delicious enough for that.
But enough complaining. Only one meal in and I love this place, and highly recommend it.

Cute vegan French bistro - Edit
I was told about this place by a non-vegan friend. French bistro menu. Lots of options, nice size portions. I had the cassoulet and the pear and chocolate crepe. We also had two appetizers, the Brie and the tapenade. My daughter had the Poulet Basquaise and she had to take some home. I can't wait to go there on a chilly day and have the cassoulet again.

Best vegan restaurant meal I’ve ever had! - Edit
Extremely quaint French restaurant with a diverse and creative menu. As a pescatarian with strong cheese opinions, the macadamia nut Brie was far and away the best vegan cheese I’ve ever had. The cassoulet and aiguillette dishes were both delicious and the portions were large. We will be back every time we’re in Manhattan!
